Sodium phosphate dibasic/Sodium phosphate monobasic enema

What is sodium phosphate dibasic/sodium phosphate monobasic and what is it used for?

• It is useful as a laxative to relieve occasional constipation and as part of a bowel cleansing regimen to prepare the colon for surgery, x-rays, or endoscopy.
• When used as directed, it provides a safe and thorough cleansing action and induces complete emptying of the left colon, usually within 1 to 5 minutes, without pain or cramping.

Do not take sodium phosphate dibasic/sodium phosphate monobasic rectal suppositories:

• congestive heart failure
• severe impairment of kidney function
• Known or suspected gastrointestinal obstruction
• Megacolon (congenital or acquired)
• paralytic ileus
• hole
• active inflammatory bowel disease
• imperforated anus
• drying
• In general, in all cases where the absorption capacity increases or the removal capacity decreases.
• Children under 2 years of age
• Hypersensitivity to the active ingredients

Warnings and Precautions:

• Use with caution if:
• kidney dysfunction
• Taking medications known to affect renal perfusion, renal function, or hydration status
• Those with electrolyte disturbances or who are taking diuretics or other medications that may affect electrolyte levels
• You are taking medications known to prolong the QT interval.
• dropsy
• You had a colostomy.

Possible side effects:

• drying
• diarrhea
• nausea/vomiting

Other medications and sodium phosphate dibasic/sodium phosphate monobasic rectal suppositories:

• Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
• Other sodium phosphate preparations, including sodium phosphate solution or tablets, should not be given concomitantly.
• Electrolyte disturbances and hypovolemia caused by decontamination may be exacerbated by inadequate oral fluid intake, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, or the use of diuretics (furosemide), ACE inhibitors (lisinpuril, ramipril), angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), candesartan, NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac), lithium, or other drugs that may affect electrolyte levels, and may lead to metabolic acidosis, tetanus, renal failure, QT prolongation, and, in more severe cases, organ failure, cardiac arrhythmia/cardiac arrest, and death.
• Lithium: Avoid combination as it may reduce its effectiveness.

How to take sodium phosphate dibasic/sodium phosphate monobasic rectal suppositories:

• Adults and children over 2 years: Use one enema daily.

Instructions for use:

• Remove the orange protective shield from the enema before inserting it.
• With steady pressure, gently insert the enema tip into the rectum with a slight side-to-side motion, pointing the tip toward the navel. Insertion may be easier if the person receiving the enema holds their position, as if having a bowel movement. This helps relax the muscles around the anus.
• Discontinue use if the tip is difficult to insert. Pushing the tip into the rectum can cause injury (especially if you have hemorrhoids). If the enema tip causes rectal bleeding or pain, seek immediate medical attention.
• Squeeze the bottle until almost all of the liquid is gone. It's not necessary to empty the bottle completely, as it may contain more liquid than necessary.
• Pull out of the rectum and hold the position until the urge to evacuate becomes strong (usually 1 to 5 minutes).

Positions for using this enema:

• Left Side Position: Lie on your left side with your knees bent and your arms resting comfortably.
• Knee-chest position: Kneel, then lower your head and chest forward until the left side of your face rests on the surface with your left arm bent comfortably.
• If you don't feel any urge to defecate after 5 minutes of use, try emptying your bowels. Contact a doctor immediately if fluid does not come out of your rectum after 30 minutes, as dehydration may occur.
• The enema should be used at room temperature.

• Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
• Do not store above 30°C.
• Do not snow or freeze.
